CapsHyper is a menu bar utility for Mac, developed by Cododev Technology Inc., that turns your Caps Lock key into a "Hyper" key: a single key that presses a combination of modifier keys you choose. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.
CapsHyper does not record, store, or transmit your keystrokes, and does not collect any personal data. Its only network connection is checking cododev.ca for app updates.
Accessibility Access and Keyboard Events
macOS requires Accessibility access for any app that changes keyboard input. CapsHyper uses it to add your chosen modifier keys to the keys you press while Caps Lock is held down. Keystrokes are processed in memory as they happen and are never logged, saved, or sent anywhere.
While CapsHyper is enabled, it also uses macOS's built-in key remapping to stop Caps Lock from toggling capital letters. This mapping is removed when you disable or quit the app.
Local Storage
CapsHyper stores its preferences locally on your device, in the standard macOS preferences system. This includes:
- Whether CapsHyper is enabled.
- The modifier keys Caps Lock should press.
- Whether the menu bar icon is hidden.
- Your software update preferences.
None of this information is transmitted off your device.
Software Updates
CapsHyper checks for new versions by downloading a small update feed from cododev.ca, by default about once a day. You can turn automatic checks off in CapsHyper's Preferences and check manually instead.
Like any web request, an update check reveals your IP address and the app's name and version to our server, which keeps standard server logs of requests. CapsHyper adds nothing else to the request: no identifiers and no information about your Mac's hardware. Updates are downloaded from cododev.ca and are verified to be signed by Cododev Technology before they are installed.
Launch at Login
If you enable "Launch at login," CapsHyper uses Apple's Service Management framework to register itself to start automatically. This setting is stored by macOS, not by CapsHyper.
Command-Line Tool
If you choose to install the optional capshyper command,
CapsHyper places a link to it in a standard command folder on your
Mac, asking for your administrator password if macOS requires it. The
command only opens CapsHyper's settings window.
No Analytics or Tracking
CapsHyper does not include any analytics, advertising, or tracking frameworks, and it does not collect usage data, device information, or location data.
Children's Privacy
CapsHyper is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
