Vox is a voice transcription app for Mac developed by Cododev Technology Inc. This privacy policy explains how the app handles your data.
Your voice, your recordings, and your transcriptions never leave your computer. They are never sent to us or to anyone else, ever.
On-Device Transcription
All transcription in Vox happens entirely on your device. Your voice recordings are never sent to any server, not to Cododev Technology and not to any third party. The speech-to-text processing is performed locally using a machine learning model that runs on your Mac.
Microphone Access
Vox requests access to your microphone in order to record audio when you activate it. Audio is captured only while recording is active. Recorded audio is processed locally for transcription and is never transmitted off your device.
Accessibility
Vox requests Accessibility permission in order to insert transcribed text directly into the active text field and to detect when you press your trigger key (such as Fn or Option) to start and stop recording. This permission is used solely to provide the core functionality of the app.
Local Storage
Vox stores the following information locally on your device:
- Your chosen trigger key and keyboard shortcut preferences.
- Your selected transcription model and recording retention setting.
- Audio recordings. By default, Vox keeps your recordings as temporary files on disk for approximately one hour. This is solely to allow recovery if the app crashes mid-recording or mid-transcription. These files are never sent anywhere and are only accessible to you. If you prefer that nothing is ever written to disk, set Recording Retention to Never in Preferences. In that mode all audio is processed entirely in memory and no file is created.
- Transcription history. Vox keeps your five most recent transcriptions in memory while the app is running, so you can recover text if you accidentally lose it (for example, by overwriting the clipboard or forgetting to place your cursor). This history is never written to disk, never sent anywhere, and disappears when you quit the app. You can disable it entirely in Preferences.
None of this information is transmitted off your device.
Model Downloads
Vox downloads machine learning models from Hugging Face (huggingface.co) in order to perform transcription. These downloads happen over the network when you select and install a model. No personal information is included in these requests, and Hugging Face does not receive any data about you or your usage of the app.
No Analytics or Tracking
Vox does not include any analytics, advertising, or tracking frameworks. The app does not collect usage data, device information, or location data. No data is shared with third parties.
Children's Privacy
Vox is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
